Ahead of the new season, former Inter manager and current Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini has shared his views on Inter, starting with his views on Inter’s midfield recruits Nicolo Barella and Stefano Sensi.
“They are two extraordinary players. I have seen them grow game after game to what they have become now. They are both technically good and can play in multiple roles in the midfield,” he said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
Mancini was then asked why he thinks Romelu Lukaku has been deemed the perfect striker for Antonio Conte.
“We would have to ask him. He probably has the qualities he is after. He is powerful and despite being big, he is quick and obviously scores a lot of goals. I’ve only seen him a few times though, Conte knows him much better.”
He was then asked what he thinks Inter are missing to properly challenge Juventus.
“It’s early to say, let’s wait. Juve is by far the strongest, let’s not forget that they have been winning for eight years and have also strengthened.
“Napoli are a dangerous side and has players who have been playing together for years now. Inter have changed a lot of players and have lost some important players. They are certainly improving but for now I think the league will finish Juventus top, Napoli second and Inter third.”
Mancini concluded by discussing Mauro Icardi’s situation with the club.
“He’s a player who guarantees 20-25 goals a year. I’m sorry for him and I hope this situation will be resolved soon. He can still improve.
“An exchange with Dybala? Dybala is a great player, they would be perfect playing alongside eachother.”
