Alexis Sanchez’s imminent move to Inter is comparable in a way to Wesley Sneijder’s arrival in Milan 10 years ago.

Tuttosport highlighted this morning how both players were signed by the Nerazzurri after they had chased someone else for the vast majority of the transfer window.

Inter had their heart set on bringing Edin Dzeko to San Siro this summer, but the Bosnian’s decision to sign a new deal with Roma forced them to go after Sanchez instead.

Likewise, when Sneijder joined in 2009 the club originally wanted to sign Deco, after Jose Mourinho had identified the Portugal international as the perfect no. 10 for his side.

Deco was decisive for Mourinho’s Porto side when they won a surprising Champions League title in 2004, but he only moved to Chelsea after the Special One had already left.

Mourinho wanted a reunion with the midfielder at Inter and spent most of the summer hoping he would arrive, but in the end he had to make do with Sneijder.

Unlike with Deco and Sneijder, Sanchez is a completely different player to Dzeko and will probably force Antonio Conte to modify the tactical plans he had drawn up for Inter this year.

It remains to be seen whether that is actually a bad thing, however, with some supporters doubtful as to whether Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku could really have played in a two-man attack together.
