Inter’s vice-president Javier Zanetti believes sport is about far more than just winning matches.

Pupi does not have an active role in the club’s transfer business and was free to attend the Rimini Meeting tonight, an event the city organises every year in a bid to become ‘the international capital of culture’ for seven days.

Inter’s arch rivals Juventus have always been criticised for their aggressive club motto, which tells supporters ‘winning is the only thing that counts’.

Pupi told reporters there were far more values sport stood for, such as the ability to help children from less privileged backgrounds.

He told Ansa: “Sport helps people create a working environment where you can have objectives and ambitions. Winning matters but it’s not the only thing, because we need to transfer values as well.

“Sport helps with integration as well, which is an important issue.”

Zanetti was then asked for some general life advice from a young man looking for his first job.

He responded: “I’d encourage you not to give up, to keep following your goals and most of all to never stop dreaming.”
