Inter’s former striker Roberto Boninsegna has urged the Nerazzurri to avoid selling Mauro Icardi to Juventus at all costs.

Maurito only seems willing to leave the club before the transfer window shuts if he can secure a move to the Serie A champions.

Boninsegna encouraged Icardi to join Napoli because it would ensure a more competitive title race this season.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: “As an Interista I would never want to see Icardi at Juventus.

“My liver already had a lot of trouble coping with Nicolo Zaniolo’s performance for Roma against Real Madrid the other week. €4 million for a pure talent who’s already worth €60 million… anyway, let’s talk about Icardi, that would be better.

“Selling him to Juventus would see Inter reinforce a team that’s already incredibly strong. I’d like to see a more uncertain league season after years of domination from the Bianconeri.

“Juve are certainly right to be pursuing Icardi. It appears the player has expressed a preference for them as well, he wants to try and win the Champions League together with Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Cristiano’s history tells us he needs a central reference point up front and Icardi would be ideal. He would stay in the box like a cobra while Ronaldo moves about and cuts in from the two wings.

“They’d be perfect together. I’d play a trequartista behind them to feed them the ball as well.”
