Edin Dzeko today thanked Roma for ‘making me feel important’ after snubbing Inter to sign a new contract in the capital.

The Bosnian put pen to paper on a fresh three-year deal earlier this month after weeks of speculation linking him to the Nerazzurri.

Dzeko said he was happy to see how pleased everybody at Roma was following his decision to stay at the club.

He told RomaTV: “My teammates, friends and brothers all put pressure on me so that I didn’t go anywhere else.

“The club had already told me at the end of last season that I was part of their project and future plans. Eventually we did what everyone wanted [signing a new deal].

“I’ve signed for three years because I want to stay here. There are serious people working here who did a lot to keep hold of me, and I will thank them by giving everything on the pitch.

“I see a lot of Roma’s former players talking badly about the club but you have to say these things when you’re here, not when you’ve already left. Otherwise it’s too easy.”

Inter have identified Alexis Sanchez as their new target after failing to sign Dzeko, with a loan deal likely to be completed later this week.
