Inter have done the right thing by freezing Mauro Icardi out of the club and trying to sell him, according to former AC Milan and Napoli striker Jose Altafini.
The Nerazzurri have less than two weeks now to find a buyer for their former captain, having stripped Icardi of the armband back in February.
But Maurito seems determined to stay if he cannot complete a move to Juventus, who will be unable to make an offer unless they sell.
Altafini told Quotidiano Sportivo today: “There was a problem that needed to be solved and Inter’s management have done it.
“It doesn’t look as if anything different is happening with Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain: he wants to leave and the owner has given his OK, so they’re working on a sale.
“If Icardi wants Juventus and is prepared to remain on the side-lines, then he really does risk seeing out the last two years of his contract in the stands.
“It’s only right that a serious club acts in this manner. There were too many problems to resolve within the dressing room.”
On this season’s Serie A title race, Altafini added: “It’s hard to pass judgement before anyone has stepped out onto the pitch.
“Juventus obviously start with an advantage over all their rivals, but Inter and Napoli have had good transfer windows and they’ve strengthened. In theory it should be a more open season compared to recent years.”
