Lazio’s new defender Denis Vavro sang Milan Skriniar’s praises this morning after the Slovak joined his international teammate in Serie A.

The 23-year-old has arrived from Copenhagen and told Corriere dello Sport he models himself on Martin Skrtel and Giorgio Chiellini.

Vavro and Skriniar could face off for the first time when Inter host Lazio at San Siro on 25 September.

“Skriniar is the best,” Vavro said.

“I spoke to him before coming and he explained how Italian football is different to football in Denmark. It’s faster and you play with lots of short passes.”

Skriniar is expected to start for Inter on Monday when Antonio Conte’s side begin their league campaign at home to Lecce.

He made 35 appearances for the Nerazzurri last season as Inter secured Champions League football on the final day of a traumatic campaign.

Vavro has played five times for Slovakia since making his senior debut in 2017.

The pair played together for their country in June when Pavel Hapal’s side drew 0-0 against Azerbaijan in a Euro 2020 qualifier.
