Inter will be aiming to win the Scudetto when they kick-off their new Serie A campaign on Monday, according to Corriere della Sera.
Antonio Conte’s appointment as head coach has raised expectation levels in Milan and ‘minimum objectives’ do not exist anymore, despite the fact Juventus remain slightly stronger.
The paper suggested the Nerazzurri’s downfall could be in midfield, where Conte does not have enough physicality or strength in depth.
“Gagliardini, Joao Mario and Borja Valero are not adequate second-string players so the squad still needs to be trimmed and reinforced there,” they wrote.
CdS suggested Paulo Dybala’s arrival from Juventus would mark ‘a turning point’ for the club and complete Conte’s attacking options, enabling him at that point to make a strong run in the Champions League as well.
They also had a word of warning for Beppe Marotta, telling Inter’s CEO that he would take either the praise or the blame for how things went at San Siro this year.
“He has granted Conte’s wishes almost everywhere, mixing top players like Lukaku and Godin with consolidated youngsters such as Sensi and Barella,” CdS continued.
“But he wasn’t able to secure Edin Dzeko and still needs to resolve the problem concerning Mauro Icardi before the end of the transfer window.”
Inter begin their new league season at home to Lecce on Monday evening, before traveling to play Cagliari in week two.
