Valentino Lazaro will have to wait a little longer before making his full debut for Inter, as Gazzetta dello Sport reported this morning.

The Austrian international played the full 90 minutes on 29 occasions for Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga last season and was hoping to start against Lecce at San Siro.

But Antonio Conte is expected to prefer Antonio Candreva in the right wing-back position for the Nerazzurri’s first Serie A fixture.

Candreva is thought to have more stamina than Lazaro for now and will be rewarded for an impressive preseason.

Lazaro’s first summer as an Inter player began promisingly when he started in Conte’s first friendly match against Lugano.

However, a thigh injury then ruled him out for almost three weeks and set him back in his preparation, preventing him from playing on the club’s tour in Asia.

The midfielder featured in Inter’s recent behind-closed-doors matches against Virtus Bergamo and Gozzano, but he remains slightly behind schedule.

Inter’s second fixture is away to Cagliari next weekend and the 23-year-old will hope he can start his first competitive match at the Sardegna Arena.
