Stefano Sensi admits it’s hard to find the right words to describe the feeling of playing for Inter.

The midfielder joined on an initial loan deal from Sassuolo and is expected to start when the Nerazzurri begin their Serie A campaign against Lecce on Monday.

Sensi told Dazn he could not wait to play his first match at San Siro and hear the sound of his new supporters cheering.

“I get goosebumps listening to the Inter fans, I have to be honest,” the Italy international said.

“Our aim is to make them happy and proud to be our supporters. That’s why I’ll give my best in every game and sweat for the shirt every time I wear it.

“I’d never have imagined I’d reach a point like this in my career, although I’ve always done everything to try and ensure it happened.

“Now I’m convinced I’ve joined the right club at the right time. There were rumours about AC Milan and Barcelona, but as soon as I heard Inter were interested that was my only objective.

“I don’t think I’ve reached full maturity as a player but I’m at a good point. I think I’m ready to play for Inter thanks to my teammates and the coach. Everyone has given me a warm welcome and made me feel at home.”

Sensi revealed his first impressions of working with Antonio Conte, admitting he was struck by the winning mentality he showed every day in training.

He added: “He’s a coach who makes you work hard and hard work pays off. Conte hates laziness because it’s counterproductive for the team. He asks us for a lot of movement and to play with confidence.”

The midfielder then addressed claims from Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini that Inter ‘had nowhere to hide’ in terms of this season’s title race.

Sensi responded: “Our targets are certainly ambitious, but we don’t want to bite off more than we can chew. But who knows, perhaps we’ll be able to compete.”

He also had positive words for two of his new teammates in Romelu Lukaku and Marcelo Brozovic.

“Lukaku is certainly a player with huge pedigree who has always played at extremely important clubs,” Sensi concluded.

“He will give us the right power and mentality: with signings like this we’re destined to achieve great things.

“I’m getting along well with Brozovic too, we have a good understanding and I think you’ve seen that. I didn’t expect to strike up such a good understanding, we look for each other a lot.”
