Lecce president Saverio Sticchi Damiani has shared his delight at the progress the club has made under his stewardship as the Giallorossi prepare to begin their Serie A adventure tomorrow night against Inter.
“It doesn’t seem real, we are at least three years ahead of schedule,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“In the summer of 2015, when I began this adventure with my partners, we lost 3-1 at home against Andria in Serie C. Then in my first match as club president in December 2017, we won 1-0 against Monopoli.
“Two consecutive promotions later, we now have the satisfaction of being a club in Serie A. A year ago, in our first year in Serie B, we were aiming to get promoted in the next 3-5 years.”
He then spoke on tomorrow night’s opener away to the much more fancied Inter.
“We have nothing to lose. Conte is perhaps the best coach in the world and Inter have exceptional players; one of them costs as much as our entire squad.”
