Inter are in talks with Monaco over a loan swap involving Joao Mario and Pietro Pellegri, according to Sport Mediaset.

Mario is out of Antonio Conte’s plans for this season and the Nerazzurri are keen to offload him before the transfer window shuts next week.

The midfielder could join the Ligue 1 club in a deal that also would see Pellegri move to San Siro.

The TV station did not clarify whether the former Genoa forward would be a direct alternative to Alexis Sanchez, who still hasn’t arrived from Manchester United, but this would appear unlikely.

Pellegri, who turned 18 in March, missed almost the entire 2018-19 season due to a groin injury, making just three appearances at the beginning of the campaign.

In December 2016, the Italian equalled Amedeo Amadei’s 79-year record as the youngest player to make his debut in Serie A, playing for Genoa aged 15 years and 280 days.

Inter nearly signed Pellegri and his teammate Eddie Salcedo in 2017, agreeing a combined fee with Genoa which could have risen to €60 million.
