Inter are likely to be frustrated in their last-minute chase to sign Spal striker Andrea Petagna, according to FcInterNews.it.

Petagna scored 16 goals for Leonardo Semplici’s side last season and has been identified by the Nerazzurri as a perfect understudy to Romelu Lukaku.

But Mauro Icardi is set to scupper any deal for the ex-AC Milan forward by deciding to stay at Inter until at least the January transfer window.

Inter’s former captain is convinced he can persuade Antonio Conte to give him a second chance and will block Petagna’s arrival by ensuring there are too many strikers on the club’s books.

Spal do not share such an abundance in their own attack and are unlikely to let Petagna leave unless Inter make a significant offer.

Despite Inter’s appreciation for the 24-year-old, their chances of even beginning talks for him seem extremely slim.

Inter announced Cristiano Biraghi’s arrival from Fiorentina this morning and will soon do the same with Alexis Sanchez, but their transfer business has not finished yet.

Last night, the Nerazzurri’s management had dinner with Giuseppe Riso and discussed deals involving Eddie Salcedo and Pietro Pellegri.

Salcedo is all set to join Hellas Verona on a season-long loan, although there is still a chance Genoa could resign their former striker and loan him to the Gialloblu themselves.

Pellegri, meanwhile, is expected to stay at Monaco, despite being offered to Inter by part of his entourage, after Conte decided he was looking for a different type of player as back-up for Lukaku.
