Inter’s former striker Ivan Zamorano is delighted the Nerazzurri have decided to sign his fellow countryman Alexis Sanchez.
El Nino Maravilla completed a medical in Milan yesterday and should be officially announced as the club’s latest summer signing today.
Zamorano revealed those close to Sanchez had told him the forward was ‘extremely excited’ about the prospect of playing for Inter.
He told Gazzetta dello Sport: “It’s the perfect deal. I’m happy and so is he.
“Alexis is excited because he’s coming back to Italy, which will be a plus for him. Serie A is a tough league and I know that well, but he’s already played here as a youngster and that’s a good advantage.
“There’s also the fact he’s going to Inter, though. I know the club and I know Alexis, I think they can complement each other very nicely.
“The city of Milan will be great for him too. It’s the perfect place to resurrect his career.”
Zamorano said he would tell Sanchez he was joining the best club in Italy, highlighting the city, Inter’s fans and the family-like feel of the club.
“Most of all, though, I’ll tell him that when you arrive at Inter you’re not just an Inter player, you become an Interista,” he added.
“And that’s very different.”
Zamorano backed Sanchez to lay on ‘a sackful of goals’ for his former Manchester United teammate Romelu Lukaku and explained why Antonio Conte might have wanted the forward.
“I think Alexis is the ideal player to make Lukaku even more of a penalty box predator, which is what he likes,” he continued.
“Conte’s football speaks for itself, but as far as the man is concerned I’m told he’s someone who prioritises discipline while staying close to his players.
“Reinaldo Rueda, Chile’s head coach, is very similar. He loves Sanchez, who loves Rueda. Need I say more?”
Inter’s former no. 9 then joked he would be tempted to put his own boots back on if the Nerazzurri went onto sign Sanchez’s international teammate Arturo Vidal.
He concluded: “It’s an easy prediction to make. With Sanchez, Inter will fight for the Scudetto, but with Sanchez and Vidal they can also hope to do great things in the Champions League.”
