Mauro Icardi ignored advice from those closest to him yesterday when they tried to persuade him to leave Inter for the good of his career, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Napoli have offered Inter €65 million to sign their former captain, but Aurelio De Laurentiis will withdraw his interest if he does not get a positive response by tomorrow.
Icardi could still be waiting on a last-minute move from Juventus, but the Bianconeri’s hopes of signing the striker are being thwarted by Mario Mandzukic’s refusal to leave.
Gazzetta warned Maurito time was no longer on his side, as the risk of spending at least the next six months on the side-lines becomes ever larger.
Inter have been clear all summer that Icardi is no longer part of their plans, with the club’s management reiterating this to the 26-year-old in a face-to-face meeting on Tuesday.
But Icardi continues to exclude any eventuality that involves him leaving Inter, despite all evidence suggesting he has no future in Milan.
Antonio Conte is likely to exclude Icardi from Inter’s Champions League squad list, for which the group stage draw will take place later today.
Not even this appears to be enough of a threat to convince the Argentine to leave, though, with only four days left until the transfer window shuts.
