Mauro Icardi remains determined to stay at Inter beyond the closure of the transfer window on Monday, according to FcInterNews.it.
Friday’s leading sports papers in Italy suggested the striker was finally considering the idea of leaving, having realised it was pointless to stay where he wasn’t wanted.
But Icardi’s entourage have confirmed he still intends to respect his contract with Inter, despite Beppe Marotta saying today he was ‘very optimistic’ about securing a last-minute sale.
Maurito has turned down offers from Napoli, Roma, Monaco, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal and Beijing Gouan this summer, with a move to Juventus – the only club he has shown an interest in joining – looking unlikely.
Inter might make a last-ditch attempt to secure a swap deal involving Paulo Dybala on Monday, reviving Icardi’s chances of signing for the Bianconeri.
La Joya does not want to join Paris Saint-Germain and is hoping to stay in Turin, but the former Palermo man has never officially closed the door on a move to Inter.
Sources close to Dybala believe the forward wants Juventus to take public responsibility if they sell him, making it clear to everyone he did not ask to leave.
If Icardi does not join the Italian champions, it remains extremely unlikely he will extend his contract and secure a loan move abroad.
The 26-year-old is due to earn €6 million after tax with Inter this season following their qualification for the 2019-20 Champions League.
Suning would have to offer €9 million, a salary similar to the one Romelu Lukaku was given, in order for Icardi and Wanda Nara to accept a renewal, which is improbable for a player they wish to sell.
