Lawyer Giuseppe Di Carlo has spoken in length with Corriere dello Sport with regard to his client Mauro Icardi launching legal action against Inter for the way he has been treated in recent months.
“Before arriving at this point, at the beginning of August, I had sent a warning to the club for Icardi to be fully reinstated in training,” he began.
“In response, I received a formal letter from the company stating that he is integrated into the group, while it is known to everyone that he does not carry out the technical and tactical sessions. He is unilaterally considered on the transfer market despite a contract until June 2021 and has declared will to respect his contract.
“This is an established practice also carried out by other clubs, but I wonder: is it correct? This arbitration can become a question of law in the future. A player cannot just be set aside in this way but at the same time the player cannot just turn around and try and sue the club for mobbing.”
Di Carlo then went on to confirm that the legal action would stop if Icardi is to leave Inter.
“In my opinion there are no conditions to ask for the termination of his contract, but he is right to demand equal treatment with the other Inter players. Now let’s see what kind of developments there will be. If Icardi changes team, the legal procedure will end.”
He then spoke on the effect the whole saga has had on his client.
“It was not at all easy for him, he is suffering mentally because of this situation. It is not normal to suffer discrimination like what he is.
“I believe that he should be treated like all Inter players and he also wants that. This is what we asked for in the document sent to the club. Now there will be three player who will decide: if they give us reason, Inter will have to comply with our request, otherwise they can continue to do what they have done so far.”
He concluded by explaining why exactly they asked for €1.5 million in damages.
“We have been forced to by the collective bargaining agreement. It is a necessary consequence in the event that discriminatory behavior is ascertained.
“It is neither a choice of mine nor of the footballer. Icardi is not doing this for money, he is interested in being an integral part of the Inter project.”
