Stefan de Vrij has not travelled with the rest of the Inter squad for the match against Cagliari as a precaution according to a report from Turin based news outlet Tuttosport.

The Dutch central defender picked up a muscle injury during the warm-up before last weekend’s 4-0 victory over Lecce and although he returned to training with the rest of his teammates on Thursday, Inter manager Antonio Conte and his staff do not wish to risk him for the sake of it.

Andrea Ranocchia came in for de Vrij last weekend and it remains to be seen if Conte will once again call upon Ranocchia or if he will grant Summer signing Diego Godin his Inter debut.

The veteran Uruguayan defender arrived on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Atletico Madrid but sustained an injury during pre-season which meant he was not ready for the match against Lecce.
