Gazzetta dello Sport report that Cagliari are set to receieve a fine after a portion of their fans subjected Inter striker Romelu Lukaku to racist abuse.
A section of fans behind the goal as Lukaku was preparing to take a penalty in Sunday’s match between the two sides could clearly be heard making monkey chants.
Lukaku scored the penalty and would go on to stare down the section whilst Milan Skriniar stood up for Lukaku by making a “shh” motion at the fans.
Cagliari have openly condemened the abuse that Lukaku was subjected to through way of a strong worded statement and both the Lega Serie A and FIGC have also released statements on the matter.
Lukaku has receieved a lot of support from around the footballing world and has himself called upon authorities, clubs and social media outlets to do more in the fight against racism and other forms of discrimination.
