Serie A clubs spent over €1 billion combined in the Summer transfer window, which came to a close yesterday, for the second year running according to a report from Corriere della Sera.

This sum represents a significant increase compared to five years ago when the Serie A clubs spent just €400 million between them.

Juventus spent the highest sum of any Serie A club on a single player in the transfer window having spent €75 million on the signing of defender Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax.

The report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to state that Serie A clubs were not the only clubs to break the €1 billion mark when it came to spending with the clubs in both the Premier League and La Liga also managing to do so.

The 20 Premier League clubs’ business totalled a sum of €1.55 billion whilst the 20 La Liga clubs’ totalled €1.32 billion – a large amount of which was made up by the business of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
