Several of Inter’s celebrity fans have come out and distanced themselves from Inter’s leading ultra group Curva Nord’s statement.

The Curva Nord released a statement in wake of Romelu Lukaku being racially abused against Cagliari and claimed that what had happened to him was not racist.

Speaking to Corriere della Sera, La7 news show director Enrico Mentana said: “Like any Inter fan who loves the values of sport, I am ashamed to share my passion with them.”

Comedian Enrico Bertolino meanwhile added: “I would have appreciated to have seen a letter from the Curva Nord dedicated to Giacinto Facchetti, since it is around the 13th anniversary of his death.

Gianfelice Facchetti, the son of the legendary Giacinto, said: “Unfortunately these are things that we have already seen and heard from the Curva before.

“If you want to make an opposition player nervous, you must whistle, you do not make those chants. We must ensure that civilisation reigns supreme in the stadiums in Italy.

“If I am at the theatre and there is a black actor, nobody makes those sort of chants. Those who make the chants in stadiums are very rude and greatly ignorant. How can those chants at a black person not be called racism?”
