Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has a clause within his contract which allows him to leave the Spanish giants for free according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

In the Argentine’s most recent renewal with the Blaugrana, a clause was inserted which allows him to terminate his contract at no cost, so long as he gives a month’s notice.

Whilst it seems near impossible to imagine Messi playing anywhere other than Barcelona, it can not be ruled out that in the event of another failure in the Champions League he may decide to leave in search of a new challenge, similarly to what Cristiano Ronaldo did having won three straight Champions League titles at Real Madrid.

In Italy, Juventus have developed a reputation in recent years for signing players on a free whilst Inter have now began to also make the most of the free agent market, most recently signing Diego Godin on a free.

The multi-time world player of the year has drawn links to Inter in the past but news of this clause could actually mean a move is possible now.
