Lega Serie A chief executive Luigi De Siervo has shared his disappointment following the recent racist abuse against Inter striker Romelu Lukaku.
“Racism? I will call President Ferrero, because these acts make our country uncivilised. We are trying to eradicate this from our game. Italy is not a racist country, but there are groups of cretins who feel as if they can say what they want,” De Siervo said in an interview with Radio Punto Nuovo.
He then spoke specifically on the Curva Nord’s letter and Lukaku.
“The letter from the Inter fans is bad, the racist chants are inexcusable. I want to thank Lukaku [for speaking up] because he is a young, pure boy, who has fought matches on the field of various kinds.”
In conclusion he spoke on the Lega Seria A’s new campaign aimed at combating racism.
“We have asked each team to identify a player to help us build an awareness campaign. We are working hard on it.”
