Romelu Lukaku remained on the bench in Belgium’s Euro 2020 qualifier clash against San Marino as a precautionary measure, according to Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details that Belgium coach Roberto Martinez is aware of how important the striker is to Inter and will only play the 26-year-old when it’s absolutely necessary.

Lukaku has unique characteristics on the Inter squad and the team play with those characteristics in mind, a fact coach Antonio Conte is aware of, and so ensuring that the striker is fully fit going into the Nerazzurri’s next game against Udinese is a priority.

The former Manchester United forward has scored two goals in his first two games with the club, helping Inter to a perfect record after two games, a feat shared by both Juventus and Inter.

With the Champions League also approaching, limiting the risk of injury to Lukaku is of top priority.
