Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has spoken on how star striker Romelu Lukaku has had to deal with heavy media attention throughout his career.

“I think Romelu is one of those modern footballers born with media attention on them. The media have paid close attention to him since he was just 16-years-old,” Martinez explained at the pre-match press conference ahead of Belgium’s EURO 2020 qualifier against Scotland.

“The media have always followed him: from his time at Anderlecht when he was participating in the Champions League to his transfer to Chelsea. Then he did well at West Brom before the move to Everton. Then came the big transfer to Manchester Untied and now he is at Inter.”

The former Wigan Athletic and Swansea City manager concluded: “He is one of the most motivated boys: football is his life, he lives to score goals and be effective for Belgium and for his team.”
