Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has shared his happiness at how often he has been playing for the Argentine national team as of late.

“I am happy, when you are called upon you must always be available. I am very happy to be here with my teammates, many of whom I played alongside in the Copa America,” he told TyC Sports.

“I know I have to work hard as these are still my first few games for the national team. The Copa America was my first big tournament with the team and it was a very positive experience.

“Afterwards, I had a good pre-season with Inter that was short but intense. I am playing a lot of minutes and this is important for me.

“On a personal level, I an very surprised by the level I reached and how much of the Copa America I played. I started on the bench but then became the starter.”

He then spoke on playing alongside Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero.

“It is clear that we are talking about two top level players each with an extraordinary career behind them. It was my turn, we had to do some extra work and with this system we certainly need to run because with three strikers the team risks losing something, but even in Inter I have to do the same job.”

In conclusion he was asked about Mauro Icardi’s transfer from Inter to PSG to which he responded: “He wanted to stay at Inter.”
