Wesley Sneijder: “Still Can’t Believe I Won The Champions League With Inter”

Wesley Sneijder has revealed he is still just as proud today as he was when Inter completed their famous treble by winning the Champions League trophy a decade ago.

“I can only be enormously proud to have raised that cup. Before the final we felt that there was a lot of tension, you saw it on everyone’s face,” he remarked in an interview with the UEFA Champions League programme.

“I remained calm and I told my teammates to approach this game as it were any match. I knew that if we could get Diego Milito into the box, he would have scored and that is exactly what happened.

“The second goal came at a time when we were under great pressure. They were trying to score and we were forced to defend them. We kept them away while we waited for them to make a mistake.

“We broke on a very fast counterattack that involved several players and then Milito scored to make it 2-0. I cannot describe what went through my head at the final whistle. It all seemed like a dream. People were running everywhere and it wad a beautiful moment.

“Now, ten years later, I look back and feel the same pride as I did then. I will never forget that feeling and I still can’t believe I lifted the trophy. We gave everything and pushed ourselves to our limits. I think I would still be just as proud in one hundred years time.”
