Olé journalist Maxi Espejo has been left impressed by Lautaro Martinez’s performance in Argentina’s 4-0 victory over Mexico but insists that Argentina ‘have to be careful with him’.

“It was certainly a performance to shout about. Argentina has a great deal of faith in Lautaro Martinez, especially after what he showed in the Copa America,” Espejo said in an interview with PassioneInter.com.

“He is considered a promising player with a bright future ahead of him but to say that he has everything at his feet at this stage is a bit too much. Argentina cannot depend on just one player so we have to be careful with him and safeguard him from the great pressure here.

“I saw some of Inter’s games against Lecce and Cagliari. He has formed a good partnership with Lukaku. Lautaro is someone who can easily play together with another striker.”

Espejo then discussed Mauro Icardi, who left Inter for PSG during the Summer transfer window.

“He had no place at Inter. PSG have a lot of star players and he will have to earn his place and learn how to manage his ego in a locker room with so many good players.

“He has lost a lot of ground when it comes to being selected for the natinoal team. Having not played for a while has caused him to drop down the pecking order. He will have to play very well at PSG to be in with a chance of playing in the qualifiers as today he is far away from being selected.”
