Inter legend Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi is of the belief that manager Antonio Conte was the club’s best acquisition over the Summer.

Firstly however he spoke on the club bringing in some more Italian players and discussed Romelu Lukaku’s arrival too.

“Marotta’s idea was always to bring as many Italians as possible to the club. In my time we had five or six foreigners in the side. The best player was Lothar Matthuas and whilst I do not want to say that Romelu Lukaku is of the same level, he is the kind of striker that is great for Inter. He has the ability to impose himself in Serie A,” he explained to CalcioMercato.it.

He then spoke on Antonio Conte.

“I’ve never seen Conte train, but I trust the people who have told me about it. Pirlo, for example, told me he is very good. Conte has done well everywhere and he has to make the most of the players. He has already recovered Antonio Candreva and Andrea Ranocchia and in my opinion, Conte was Inter’s biggest investment over the Summer, he is the real top player.”

He concluded by discussing the Serie A title race.

“I think it will be difficult to beat Juventus. This year the Bianconeri are trying to change their DNA. Initially all they thought about was winning but now they want to play beautiful football which is why they hired Maurizio Sarri. Inter must make it into the Champions League and be ready to take advantage of Juventus should they stumble.”
