Samuel Eto’o has revealed that former Inter manager Jose Mourinho was the first to reach out to him following his announcement that he was retiring from professional football.

The Cameroonian striker called time on a 21-year playing career that saw him score goals everywhere he played, including 33 for Inter.

“I am tired of saying that Jose Mourinho is one of the best people in the world of football. I finished my career and the first person to send me a message was him,” he is quoted as saying by the gathered media on the sidelines of a La Liga event in Madrid.

Eto’o arrived at Inter in the Summer of 2009 as part of a swap deal that saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic head in the opposite direction to Barcelona.

The 38-year-old made a profound impact in his debut season with the club and would help the club win a historic treble. He would stay for another season before leaving for Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.
