Having at least temporarily solved the Mauro Icardi saga, Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta will now be tasked with working out how to best deal with a contract renewal for Lautaro Martinez according to a report from Sport Mediaset.

The club have been keen to tie the young striker down to a new contract for a while now but off the back of his hat-trick in Argentina’s 4-0 win over Mexico, his agent Beto Yaque is out to make the most of it and get his client a raise.

The 22-year-old striker is among the lowest earners in the first team and his salary ultimately does not reflect his standing in the team nor his potential standing should he continue to grow how he has already in his time with the club.

He is currently under contract with the Nerazzurri until the end of the 2022/23 season and other reports doing the rounds in the media have suggested that Inter wish to extend his contract by a further season.
