Ahead of Atalanta’s historic Champions League debut, coach Gian Piero Gasperini spoke to Milano based newspaper il Corriere della Sera about his time at Inter and his thoughts on this season’s championship.

When asked if his time at Inter would have been different after his now accumulated experiences, Gasperini was unsure.

“I don’t know, certainly at that time the team was in trouble and continued to have it even after my dismissal. Maybe I too came out stronger from that experience. They certainly gave me reasons to prove that they were wrong about me.”

Then Gasperini spoke about the title race for this season.

“Juventus numerically and qualitatively remain the strongest team. I would like to hope that Napoli and Inter can create problems. With Maurizio Sarri I think that the Bianconeri have gone in search of a plus that can win the Champions League. Otherwise, after 8 championships, they would have stayed with Massimiliano Allegri.”
