Inter and AC Milan have no intention on backing off from their plans to build a new stadium in Milan, instead of the Mayor’s suggestions to renovate the San Siro, according to Milano based newspaper il Corriere della Sera.

The report details how both clubs feel the modernisation of the San Siro is too difficult and two experts agree with the clubs’ thoughts. Structural engineer Bruno Finzi, son of Leo Finzi who designed the San Siro’s third ring, was not positive about the idea to renovate the San Siro.

“Beyond costs, renovations would require the need to break down the first tier, which is too old, and important work is required on the third. The two teams would have to play in a monastic stadium, if not away, for at least two years. And the result would not be a modern stadium anyway.”

Another expert, Mauro Eugenio Giuliani, confirms Finzi’s assessment.

“From a functional point of view, it [The San Siro] is already at the end of its life.”
