Inter coach Antonio Conte spoke to Italian media outlet Dazn tonight following his squad’s 1-0 victory over Udinese to continue the Nerazzurri’s perfect start to the season.

“We’ll have to fight every game; we’ll have to be good. Today was a difficult game, with strong players. The three points are well deserved, but Udinese managed to stay in the game all the time. We were supposed to be more cynical, but we’ve always had the breathlessness, Lasagna is very good at the start of the second half, even Fofana is difficult to stop. But that’s good, we have to fight. I read too much nonsense, but we have to play our way without thinking about anything or anyone.”

Conte then spoke about what he learnt during this game and the Nerazzurri’s schedule moving forwards.

“We have to think about the Champions League game on Tuesday and then there will be the derby. I’m happy because I got good results from playing Politano and Gagliardini, I removed Barella because he was booked but he also had a good match. We have to work knowing that the road is long, we’re laying the foundations, but we know that we want to be a clinical team.”

The Italian coach then spoke of Antonio Candreva’s performance in the game.

“Antonio, I think that apart from the poor half, he played well in the end. With Cagliari he was less decisive, with Lecce he did well. He has faith, like all the players in the squad he knows the confidence I have in them. We have to work knowing that it won’t be easy, the level of the championship has risen.”

Then the coach responded to the doubts of Diego Godin on the right side of the back three.

“We did the entire preseason this way. De Vrij centrally gives me great guarantees, in the phase of transition and possession he knows how to read the action well. He did well throughout the pre-season, then Godin arrived, and he gives us experience and solidity, as well as a decent foot.”

“I always ask the central units to be the first game builders, often it creates numerical superiority and I’m creating solutions to not make us unprepared. He hadn’t played for two months, it was hot, yet he played well on the right. I’m happy.”

Conte’s defensive preparations with the team had been shown off in this game, with the coach highlighting the importance of defending.

“I told the boys to be good from the defensive phase and to look for the restart. These are heavy points against a team that can cause a lot of problems.”

Finally, Conte described how the game would have been different if the first half had ended 0-0 and Udinese still had 11 men.

“I would have tried to put two creative players with another striker. The good thing about being able to work on another game system is that it’s good. The more knowledge the players have, the more unpredictable you are and the better you can change. Sanchez is a constructive player, we have to do new things and today we have an alternative solution to 3-5-2, this is very important.”
