Inter’s Director of Football and former full-back Javier Zanetti was a guest at an event in Milan this morning and spoke of his great relationship with Inter’s supporters, with Italian media outlet Fcinter1908 collecting his thoughts.
“It is important for me to continue this link with Inter. They [the fans] are the soul of Inter because they are there at all times, they always support us, they are always close to the team.”
When talking about his retirement, Zanetti was thankful.
“It was an emotional experience, even there they filled San Siro for my last game. I wanted to come back after the serious injury and be able to play one last season and say goodbye to the San Siro.”
The 46-year-old Argentinian then spoke of his new role at Inter.
“I wanted to make myself useful for Inter and have a 360-degree view, not just the sporting one. Inter are expanding a lot internationally, I follow many projects and for me this is very important because it makes me grow and forces me to learn more. The most important thing is to do it for Inter. “
Finally, Zanetti spoke of his decision to not go into coaching.
“Because I wanted to try other things, to have a different view. Now I’m realising that in order for a team to work, you have to have an external team that works very well.”
