Inter Coach Antonio Conte guided the Nerazzurri to a third win in a row last night against Udinese, with a second half that was tough to close out.

However, smart substitution usage was key to the victory, according to Milano based newspaper la Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 50-year-old Italian decided to substitute former Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella at half time following his booking and replaced him with a newly revitalized Roberto Gagliardini, an important move following Barella’s disappointing first half performance.

The report highlights how the substitution of Romelu Lukaku was also a key move, after the Belgium international suffered a minor back injury in the warm-up and didn’t appear 100% throughout the game. Lautaro Martinez, who recently scored a hat-trick with Argentina, impressed in his place.

Finally, Alexis Sanchez’s Inter debut didn’t show too much, with the player almost scoring a dream debut goal before being denied by an acrobatic save from Udinese keeper Juan Musso. The former Manchester United forward will be able to show the Inter fans his abilities in the Nerazzurri’s upcoming games against Slavia Prague and AC Milan.
