Alessandro Altobelli believes Inter have what it takes to compete for the Serie A title this season with thanks to having Antonio Conte as manager.
“He is a professional, I do not look at where he was in the past. Inter have brought in a top coach, who knows what he wants and knows how to make himself respected. I’m not saying Inter are ready to win the Serie A title but they can fight on equal terms with everyone,” he began an interview with Radio Anch’io Lo Sport.
He then spoke on Inter’s Champions League opener tomorrow.
“Inter’s game tomorrow may seem easy but in the Champions League there is nothing easy. Last year Inter did not progress past this round. This year, even if they are up against two very important teams, they can progress. This Inter can go a long way.
Altobelli then discussed the upcoming Derby D’Italia.
“In addition to the rivalry, Conte is obviously now at Inter and then there is the rivalry between Marotta and Paratici. Juventus have been winning the titles easily, they have won eight in a row but this is another year. It will be a tough game but certainly a good one.”
He then spoke on Inter’s options in the attack with all four strikers getting a run out over the weekend.
“I wouldn’t judge Lukaku’s game too much because there were European qualifiers, maybe he was a little tired. He still gave what he had. Conte is spoiled for choice especially in attack. In addition to Lukaku and Politano, Lautaro Martinez started on the bench even though he scored a hat-trick for Argentina and then there is Alexis Sanchez and a young player in Esposito, who has the ability to make an impact. If they are all fit, Lukaku-Martinez is the best partnership.
“Conte can indulge himself, he has a strong team. In addition to the three defenders in Godin, de Vrij and Skriniar, Conte has Sensi in the middle of the park, a player nobody expected to do so well and Barella and Brozovic.”
Next he discussed Mauro Icardi’s exit from the club in the Summer transfer window.
“Icardi is one of the strongest in the world but he is a villain, he has made decisions that leave something to be desired.”
He concluded by speaking on the future of San Siro.
“If they demolish San Siro, they will also have to demolish me too. San Siro represents history in football and it must not be touched.”
