Diego Godin has discussed the similarities he has found between former employers Atletico Madrid and new employers Inter, who he joined over the Summer transfer window.

“I see similarities between Atletico Madrid and Inter. We have an important and solid foundation represented by the coach. I believe he is fundamental, he is the stone on which everything is based,” he said in an interview with DAZN.

“In Madrid there was Diego Simeone, here there is Antonio Conte who has great personality and is able to turn everything into positive energy. Conte is someone who believes in hard work and in football you have to work and believe in what you are doing.

“We are a new group, although many have been here for some time. Several new players have arrived, but actually I see the same union as there was at Atletico Madrid.

“Then there is the same enthusiasm from the fans. It is a good thing. It is natural to be enthusiastic for all that is being built here and we must make the most of this enthusiasm. By being all together, we can achieve excellent results.

He then spoke more on the similarities between Simeone and Conte.

“Looking at them, the first thing you notice is that they share the same intensity and passion. They see games in a similar way and it is the same thing for training. They both very much believe in their ideas and have the desire to try to win. The share a winning mentality. They had it as players and still have it today as coaches.”

The Uruguayan defender also discussed the Derby della Madonnina, ahead of this weekend’s first of the season.

“It is a classic derby. You always experience the match in a special way. I know just how much the derby means for the fans. As a player, you have got to prepare for it and understand how the fans live it. You can win or lose but you want the fans to feel proud of their players on the pitch.”
