Antonio Conte has claimed complete responsibility for Inter’s poor performance as they scrapped a last minute draw at home to Slavia Prague in the opening Champions League group stage match.

“I can’t be satisfied with neither the first nor the second half. It was a bad performance, we didn’t show our idea of football. I don’t coach this. Slavia Prague were very aggressive. We train to overcome these situations. We have to grow up after a bad draw,” he told Inter’s in-house channel Inter TV.

“We took more than one step back. I blame myself for this bad performance. I didn’t record either during the game or in the preparation. I’m sorry, we didn’t work for this. We must grow tactically and our mentality. We must be stable.

“They were better than us in everything that they did. They had more desire than us. I have to take responsibility for this but it is all part of the journey. I didn’t arrive with a magic wand to change everything. We must be more stable when put in difficult. The fans, who turned out in their numbers, deserve it.”

He concluded: “The team today was all under par and I am the one with the lowest rating. No one performed to a sufficient level whilst I am very, very, far below that.”
