Former Inter playmaker Wesley Sneijder has recalled winning the Champions League trophy with the Nerazzurri back in the 2009/10 season as part of an interview with UEFA TV.

“I am proud to have raised the trophy to the sky. There was a lot of tension coming into the stadium, you could see it on everyone’s faces but I was calm and I told everyone to approach the game as if it were any other,” he began.

“The first goal came a Julio Cesar threw the ball to me and I then played the ball to Diego Milito who I saw running toward the box. I knew that if he made it into the box he would have scored and this is exactly what had happened.

“As for the second goal, we were under pressure as they were looking to equalise but we kept them out and waited for their mistake. We hit them on a quick counter-attack and Diego Milito scored again to make it 2-0.

He concluded by speaking on how it felt once the full time whistle was blown.

“I can’t describe what went through my mind at the time the full time whistle went. It was like a dream. I had never experienced anything like that. There were people running everywhere and it was a beautiful moment. I still can’t believe we won it, those images will never leave me. I am so proud of that team, that night we went beyond all limits.”
