Inter coach Antonio Conte was one of the many important faces in Italian football to denounce the hatred and racism present currently in the Italian game. According to Rome based newspaper il Corriere dello Sport, the coach believes that the fight against racism in football will require changes to education and punishments.

“In football the problem is not only racism, but any form of insult to the opponent. I returned to Italy after three years and I found things to be worse to the nth degree: everywhere I see hatred and resentment. It’s written just to foment anger and we’re all guilty, even you journalists. That’s not the way to go anywhere. We must do an examination of conscience, everyone, no one can be excluded. We must educate children and the new generations who grow up in front of a keyboard about wrong feelings such as resentment. To solve the problem, we should send positive messages, not increase violence. I’ve been lucky enough to have an experience in England where if something like this happens, they put those responsible in prison and do not let them enter the stadium anymore. Here you go to see a game to insult the opponent or the opposing team. And instead it would be nice to just incite their own formation.”
