Inter beat AC Milan 2-0 tonight, with coach Antonio Conte securing a win in his first ever Milan derby and afterwards the Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian media outlet DAZN.

“Let’s start by saying it was a derby and these are always special games, never easy to win. You are talking about teams with many titles like Inter and Milan. There’s a lot of satisfaction, the guys have played a great game from every aspect.”

“We came from a performance that left a bitter taste in our mouths, but that gave us even more energy to face the derby in the best possible way. A well-deserved victory, I’m happy for them and especially for the fans.”

The coach then spoke of his two main forwards, Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.

“Romelu came here because of his potential, if he works well, he will become a very important player. He’s only 26, Lautaro is 22. They are boys who need to be worked on and I have to improve my players through work, the important thing is that there is great willingness on their part, and they are giving it to me.”

I’m happy for the four wins in the Serie A, I’m convinced that that start in the Champions League made us understand some things.”

Conte then touched on the dressing room quarrel between Marcelo Brozovic and Lukaku earlier in the week.

“Having problems with people like them… They’re two great guys, but they’re all great. Sometimes I get angry with them because they’re too good, but you have to be shrewder on the pitch. This is a healthy group, which enjoys being together. I welcome things like that as there’s a desire to improve. I also happened to quarrel with a teammate and then go to dinner in the evening afterwards and we were better friends and stronger than before.”

Finally, the 50-year-old Italian coach spoke of the work he’s done since joining Inter.

“We’ve worked hard these months. There were difficulties due to the bustle of players which penalised me a bit, but at the same time I say that we have an idea in the possession and non-possession phase.”

“Today we pressed as a team, showing that there is work to do but the ideas then have to be implemented by the soldiers on the pitch. Today they did it very well, I’m very happy; it was my first derby and I wanted to make a good impression.”
