Italian actor and Inter fan Gianfelice Facchetti spoke to Rome based newspaper La Repubblica about tonight’s Milanese derby, talking about how the derby has changed since he was younger and the problem of racism in football.

“Seeing the derby with him [my son] excites me. When I was a child, Dad wouldn’t let me watch it. Fights and bad words were common in the stands. He said it wasn’t for children. My son was given the chance to enter on the pitch in the defeat against Cagliari, amidst the insults of the Curva at Icardi. It’s inconceivable. Racism is even more so. Football is a spectacle, like theatre. Yet no one insults the black actors who play Othello. Why does it happen in football? It’s illogical, even before that it’s shameful.”

On the topic of tonight’s derby, Facchetti hopes that Nicolo Barella can impress, before expressing his disappointment of the transfer of Patrick Cutrone to Wolves from AC Milan.

“He was the classic local player who in the madness of a derby could cause problems for the other team. It’s a war in sports, then afterwards with the Milanisti you become friends again.”
