Former Inter striker Mauro Icardi has given his first interview since joining Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain when he spoke with French broadcaster Canal+.

“I just arrived, of course when there is an option to buy a player, the player always tries to show his best to convince the club to buy him. We’ll see what happens next summer.”

The player also addressed those who judge him.

“Those who know me know how I really am, that’s what counts. I’m certainly more judged on my personal life than on what I do on the pitch. But it’s been going on for seven years now, since I’ve been living with Wanda Nara. I know she’s a famous person, but that doesn’t affect my state of mind. Otherwise I wouldn’t have scored 150 goals in Inter.”

“We try to live in the best possible way, we’re in love and you don’t choose who to fall in love with, it just happens. And when it came to choosing her as an agent, I didn’t think twice about it. I made the best decision for my family and my future. I treat men and women the same; I have three small daughters and I try to give them what I give the boys.”

Icardi also spoke of his lack of national team minutes and his relationship with Lionel Messi.

“These are things that are said, but I had the opportunity to stay with him and play with him, I knew him in Barcelona. I let people talk about my private life with Wanda, about the story of Messi, these are things that cannot be avoided. Lionel is the best player in the world, I was able to meet him, and I appreciate him enormously. I don’t believe these stories.”

The Argentine striker then described his play.

“Everyone calls me a killer, I’m always in the area ready to score. Since my debut in Rosario I’ve always wanted to score, it’s always been my goal and my obsession.”

Finally, Icardi spoke of his decision to join PSG.

“I had arrived at my seventh year at Inter. I dreamed of playing the Champions League with Inter and the dream came true. But we didn’t get great results, we didn’t win anything. I stayed, I scored a lot of goals, and it was time for me to join a winning team, that can win titles. It’s time to start winning, and to get to a team full of champions like PSG was what I wanted.”
