Former Inter defender Riccardo Ferri spoke to Italian media outlet FcInterNews today about the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 victory over AC Milan in the Milanese derby.

“Last night the reaction of the players after the poor game in the Champions League was impressive. Only the big teams and the big groups are able to reset immediately a poor game, starting again with strength and immediately starting to win.”

“As if the mistakes had never happened. This was the most important sign of yesterday’s victory in the derby. The personality and mental strength of Inter really impressed me.”

Ferri discussed coach Antonio Conte and his influence on the squad.

“It was really a great to see Inter’s personality, legs and desire to impose their game. I was thrilled by the application and desire of all the interpreters who followed the dictates of Antonio to perfection. Conte’s hand can be seen and is making a concrete impact, it is doing a great job.”

The former Nerazzurri defender then spoke of the current Inter defence.

“Inter have one of the strongest defences in Europe, that’s for sure. Very few have such a trio. The three of them have shown that they can play one against one against the three Rossoneri strikers without getting upset.”

“We’re talking about three central abilities to coexist and to be able to slide also on the band when necessary when it’s necessary to create breadth in the game.”

Ferri was most impressed by Diego Godin’s performance last night.

“Godin was monstrous at times and is getting into physical condition to get to the top as we knew him when at Atletico Madrid. The Uruguayan had the most difficult task, as Leão with speed and the ball at his feet could break the match and create big problems. Instead, he kept him at bay without any particular problems.”

“Godin also conveyed a strong sense of belonging, the same one he’d shown in Madrid. His arrival elevated and brought the winning mentality in the group.”

On the team’s unity, the Italian ex defender was positive.

“Inter have a very solid group unity. And Lukaku is the symbol of this Inter. The Belgian sees that he is struggling to assimilate our football and is not yet in the best of conditions, yet he fights and works hard. The goal can help him a lot to do even better.”

Finally, Ferri spoke of the Nerazzurri’s upcoming game against Lazio.

“Lazio play well and are one of the best teams in the championship. In recent years they have often made Inter suffer and created problems. Inzaghi’s team is very physical and difficult to deal with.”

“It will be a game with high rhythms and in which the physical component can have a very important aspect on the game. However, I remain confident for the next game, because if Inter play with the eyes of a tiger shown last night it’s really frightening for any opponent, the Nerazzurri are and will be an uncomfortable customer for everyone.”
