Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti has shared his delight at how Summer signing Fernando Llorente has got on whilst also confirming there was an attempt made to bring in Mauro Icardi from Inter.

“Llorente is a complete striker. Thanks to his size, he is quality in the air and when he has the ball at his feet he knows what to do. He arrived here with great enthusiasm and desire and He is giving us a big hand right now,” he told Radio anch’io Lo Sport.

He then explained why things between the Partenopei never worked out with Icardi.

“In the Summer we had evaluated so many players and one of those was Icardi. In order for negotiations to be completed, there has to be a joint desire from both the player and the club, if one of those is missing, it will not happen.”

The former AC Milan boss, who has also managed Chelsea during his managerial career, was asked about the perceived reduced gap between other clubs and Juventus.

“We can only talk about this at the end of the season. We want to be competitive with everyone: Inter, Juventus and the others.”
