Atalanta have condemned the portion of their support who subjected Fiorentina’s Dalbert to racial abuse during the 2-2 draw between the sides at the weekend.

During the game, some Atalanta fans targeted Dalbert, who is on loan at La Viola from Inter, and despite a public announcement calling for the chants to stop, they did not. This forced referee Daniele Orsato to temporarily halt play in a bid to get the chants to cease.

“With reference to the suspension during the match between Atalanta and Fiorentina, the club dissociates itself from any form of discrimination that may have occurred,” a statement posted on their official club website begins.

“Atalanta, with the help of their fans, are and always will be the spokesperson of values of solidarity and equality. The stupidity of a few must be fought together and we believe it has neither colour nor a shirt. It must be isolated.”
