Milan city mayor Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Sala has confirmed that if Inter and AC Milan are to follow through with plans to build a new stadium, there is zero chance that San Siro will remain.

“I think it would be wrong to leave San Siro standing if a new stadium is built. Imagine the sadness of an empty San Siro with all the attention being given to the other stadium a few hundred metres away. This is just not possible. For me the best solution is to work on San Siro but I cannot not listen to the teams,” he said in an interview with Calcio e Finanza.

He also spoke on the importance of public involvement in the proposed new stadium plans.

“I am pleased that we will also move towards good transparency with respect to the public. Football and San Siro are such delicate issues that the public must be involved but the teams must decide.”
