Following reports in the Italia media earlier on today, Spanish media are now beginning to report that Barcelona star Lionel Messi is a serious doubt for his side’s upcoming Champions League match with Inter.

Radio Catalunya are among the Spanish news outlets reporting the news that the Argentine, who is a multiple time world player of the year award winner, will miss the match at home to the Nerazzurri on the second match day of the Champions League group stage as a result of an injury to his thigh.

Messi made his first start of the season for the Blaugrana having battled back from another injury at the weekend but his return was short lived. After half an hour he had to receive medical treatment on his thigh and he was subsequently substituted at half time. His Barcelona teammates managed to hold out for a 2-1 win over Villarreal once he went off.
