Massimo Roj, the chief executive of Cmr, a company in the running to design Inter and AC Milan’s new stadium, has spoken on the project they have in mind.

“Our project is for the citizens, for the city and for all the fans, not just those of the Milanese clubs. It is a project that is linked to the area and to history, the fact that we are from Milan can help us,” Roj remarked in an interview with reporters on the sidelines of the presentation.

“It is a project that comes from the heart and with the passion that this city has for its teams. The stadium will be covered with the faces of all the fans and there will be elements of the stadium that will connect it to the past and project us into the future.

“We are a young company than Populous as we have only been designing stadiums for seven years but we have already created a number of interesting stadiums, most recently, the Moscow Stadium whilst we have won the race to build the Cagliari and Parma stadiums too.”

He then spoke on the pending demolition of San Siro.

“I grew up in that stadium and it pains me that it will be demolished but the day after the derby you see a beached whale, a dead animal. The stadium is 100 years old, it is time to change as it is too old.”
